Why Study Diagnostic Sonography?

Through academic and clinical training, students are prepared for a career as a diagnostic sonographer. Over the course of your studies, you will become proficient in a number of different sonographic techniques, including those required to conduct abdominal, obstetric, gynecological and integrated vascular ultrasounds.

Using diagnostic ultrasound, sonographers gather the information physicians need to treat ailments and disorders. While using critical thinking skills and applying knowledge of scanning techniques for general disease, students take sonographic images and ensure patient safety.

Curriculum

The Baker College Associate of Applied Science in Diagnostic Sonography degree program is a two-year, CAAHEP-accredited program consisting of 78 credit hours (28 hours of prerequisites and 50 hours of major courses). Our curriculum includes human anatomy and physiology, three clinical experiences with required lab hours and a capstone.

The mission of the diagnostic sonography program is to provide didactic and clinical education, which enables qualified students to achieve strong communication, critical thinking and technical skills required to maintain entry-level employment and become a registered diagnostic medical sonographer (RDMS) with integrated vascular proficiency.
